(Timmy Finch, Brandy Sullivan and Greg Tavares) was founded in 1995.  Over the years they have performed in over 70 different locations in the Charleston area including bars, churches, schools, hotel ball rooms, movie theaters and every once in a while a real theatre (the Garden, the Midtown, Emmett Robinson and Theatre 99).  They were also fixtures in the college market, performing at over 225 colleges in 26 states.

The Have Nots! have produced during or as a part of Piccolo Spoleto since 1995 and started Piccolo Fringe at Theatre 99 in 2001 when they opened Theatre 99 at 30 Cumberland Street.  They also founded the Charleston Comedy Festival in 2004 and are now partnered with The Charleston City Paper in what has become a 4 day city-wide festival in January.

In August 2005 they opened the new Theatre 99 at 280 Meeting Street (above The Bicycle Shoppe)

The Have Nots! and Theatre 99 have been honored over the past decade as The Best Local Theatre Company and Best Non-Spoleto Play or Performance.  The late Critic Robert Jones proclaimed, “May the Have Nots! live forever.”

Laugh for a Lincoln

WEDNESDAY, JAN 15

The Charleston Comedy Festival is proud to present Laugh for Lincoln featuring improv comedy from Spoons and Meeting Street Maniacs.

SPOONS
War. Poverty. Climate change. The Real Housewives of New Jersey. In these trying times, it’s important to know there’s an improv group named Spoons, out of Theater 99 in Charleston, SC, eager to help you laugh your sorrows away. Comprised of Meredith Kidd, Brooke O’Friel, Lily Stanton, Ali Sylvester, and Greg Tavares, Spoons brings you long-form improv comedy that is sure to distract you from the crushing weight of the world on your shoulders. As Dionne Warwick never famously sang, “What the world needs now is Spoons, sweet Spoons.” And if the world needs Spoons, then that’s what the world is gonna get.

MEETING STREET MANIACS
Meeting Street Maniacs is a group of seriously funny people from Theatre 99 doing improv comedy. They might get a word from the audience and go. They might interview an audience member and improvise hilarious scenes based off their life. Anything can happen!

The Charleston Comedy Festival is proud to present Laugh for Lincoln featuring improv comedy from Full Love Throttle and Meeting Street Maniacs.

FULL LOVE THROTTLE
After working together since 1991, Greg Tavares and Brandy Sullivan (both of The Have Nots!) decided it was time to do a 2-person improv show. It starts by taking information from one audience volunteer and then dives headfirst into funny characters and scenes that you won’t soon forget.

Impro Theatre’s “Tennessee Williams Unscripted”
Jan 18 @ 7:30 pm
Impro Theatre's "Tennessee Williams Unscripted"

A completely improvised play in the style of Tennessee Williams.
Passionate smoldering secrets lurch beneath the surface of genteel society – and explode in a climax of accusation, confession and consequence. Inspired by Tennessee Williams’ masterful storytelling and delicious language, Impro Theatre starts with a single audience suggestion and builds improvised full-length plays that are hilarious, yet tragic as a Southern belle’s broken heart.

L.A. Times Critic’s Choice! “The seasoned team at Impro Theatre raises the stakes of improv.” – Los Angeles Times

LA Weekly Critic’s Pick!

Stage Raw Recommended! “Clever and gloriously, impossibly funny! Brings down the house over and over again. Getting an audience to admire the smart work they’re watching up on stage is one thing; getting big loud laughs from them is something else. For the last ten years Los Angeles’s phenomenal Impro Theatre Company has consistently been doing both.” – Stage Raw

Closing Night All-Star Improv Jam
Jan 18 @ 10:30 pm
Closing Night All-Star Improv Jam

With so many improvisers in town for the festival, it would be a crime to not get a bunch of them together for a giant improv jam. This festival tradition is not to be missed. It will be a two act improv comedy show featuring improvisers from all over the county hosted by Brandy Sullivan and Greg Tavares from right here in Charleston.
