Over two days, we will take a deep dive into narrative improvisation. You’ll learn to combine emotional authenticity with clear storytelling, connect deeply with your scene partners, and unlock truthful, surprising narratives.

 

Dan O’Connor Bio

Dan has been performing, directing, producing, and teaching improvisation professionally since 1986. He has performed thousands of shows with LA Theatresports and Impro Theatre.  Work with LATS includes: Theatresports, Triple Play, Life Game, Gorilla Theatre, Carnal Peaks (the improvised soap opera) and  Shakespeare UnScripted at the Carrie Hamilton Theatre at Pasadena Playhouse, North Coast Rep, the Odyssey Theatre, the green show and the Thomas Theatre at Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. Tennessee Williams UnScripted at South Coast Rep, the Odyssey Theatre, the Falcon Theatre, Indiana Wesleyan University, Lit Quake at Z Gallery in San Francisco, Courtyard Playhouse in Dubai, and the Broad Stage, LA. Western UnScripted at the Falcon Theatre, North Coast Rep, and Laguna Playhouse. Sondheim UnScripted at the Odyssey Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Thomas Theatre, the Falcon Theatre, and Theatre Asylum. Jane Austen UnScripted at Bayfront Theatre, San Francisco, Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley, the Broad Stage, the Green Stage at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Texas State, the Out of Bounds Festival in Austin, Texas. Impro Theatre’s 1966 Holiday Variety Extravaganza at the Broad Stage and the Garry Marshall Theatre. Noir UnScripted at Theatre Asylum, Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Thomas Theatre, Lit Quake at Z Gallery, San Francisco, the Broad Stage, North Coast Rep, and for 800 people at the John Anson Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles. Dan performed in the Improbable Theatre’s production of Keith Johnstone’s Lifegame (off-Broadway) and the Spike television series of the same name. 

Other improv credits include: the long-running Wrought Irony at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, Pulp Playhouse at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, and as a guest star with The Second City at the Murphy’s Cat Laughs Festival in Kilkenny, Ireland, Theatre 99 in Charleston, New York New York in Las Vegas, The Groundlings Cookin’ with Gas and Crazy Uncle Joe Show, Unexpected Productions in Seattle, OFF THE WALL at the Improv and the Danny O’Connor Christmas Show at the Comedy Central Stage.

Internationally Dan has performed with Grand Theft Impro in London, the Improv Guild and the Loose Moose Theatre in Calgary (where he won the coveted Iron Improviser award), the Edmonton Fringe with Rapid Fire Theatre, Con Artists and the Impro Bandits in Auckland , New Zealand, Impro Melbourne, Canberra ACT, the Melkweg Amsterdam, and Comedy Improv in Dublin.

He has taught and directed at the Yes And Festival in New York, The Lighten Up Theatre Fest in Kansas City, the Calgary and Vancouver International Improvisation Festivals, the MOMENT! Festival in Vienna, TORN in Hamburg, the Charleston Comedy Festival, the Big Stinkin’ Improv Festival and the Out of Bounds festival both in Austin, and the ITI Conferences MITICO in Milan, the Dubai Fringe, and Improv Ecology in Vancouver.

He trained at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and is a graduate of the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Dan has co-authored two books with Jeff Katzman about using improvisation to lead a more happy and engaged life both published by North Atlantic Books and distributed by Penguin Random House
